What is America

What is America?

America The Beautiful is comprised of 50 states, 48 of them form the contiguous United States of America.  It is bordered by two oceans: The Atlantic Ocean boarders the East and The Pacific Ocean borders the West.  To the North, it borders Canada and to the South it borders Mexico.  The United States has several territories and possessions located in the Caribbean and Pacific Ocean.  It is about one-half the size of Russia, slightly larger than China and two and a half times the size of Western Europe.

America has one of the greatest pieces of documents ever made called the Constitution.  It defines and limits the power of the government, preventing tyranny. It also defines the relationship between the national and state governments. Most importantly, it guarantees the rights of the citizens of the United States.  Within the Constitution are the Bill of Rights; Amendments which list our our rights such as the Freedom of Religion, Freedom of Speech, the Right to Bare Arms and the Right to a fair trial.  It also abolished slavery and gave women equal rights to vote.

America lets you be whoever you want to be so long as you work hard to achieve it.  It allows you to speak freely about how you feel without the threat of persecution.  We are able to go anywhere and do anything so long as it doesn't harm anyone and isn't against the law.  Many laws are put into place to protect the citizens, not the government.  Each person has the right to feel secure and safe with themselves and their property.  Each landowner has the right to say what they can and can't do with their property.

When we first discovered America, it was a big deal to own your own piece of land.  Today, owning or renting your own home/apartment is a right of passage.  Usually it happens when you hit the age of eighteen, the legal age of an adult.  Back then, the land they owned was the land they worked in order to feed themselves or trade for other goods.  Now, a majority of us use our land to build a home upon and use the yard for fun or decoration.  You have the option of living practically anywhere, in any climate or area so long you are able to purchase the land.

The land and climate of the United States varies drastically from coast to coast.  In the southern part of the United States, you have a warmer climate and the Northern States usually see more colder months.  There are many plains, valleys, mountains and beaches to live in and near.  Both the east and west coasts boasts many popular beaches which thousands of people flock to each week in order to take in the beautiful views of the water. One of our biggest mountain ranges is The Rocky Mountains.  It run from British Columbia in Canada down to New Mexico in the southern part of the United States.  It is a huge tourist attraction where many people go hiking, fishing, skiing, hunting and camping.

America is also steeped in history.  Our capital, Washington D.C. hold some of the oldest protected parks in the nation.  Many iconic landmarks are also found there such as the White House where President Barack Obama currently resides in office, the Washington Lincoln, Jefferson Memorials and Korean and Vietnam War Memorials.  In New York, there is the Metropolitan Museum which contain more than two million arts of work and the American Museum of Natural History which contains vast records of world history from dinosaur fossils to the human genome.  It is one of the worlds preeminent science and research institutions, know world wide for is collections and exhibitions.

When you come to America for the first time you could have the opportunity to go to great schools which can help you specialize in an field of interest.  You could obtain a great job and live the American dream-- Doing something you love to do, living somewhere you want to live with the people that you love the most and are able to give your children the same opportunity.
